The region’s definitive fashion event, Fashion Forward Dubai (FFWD), kicked off its ninth season on Thursday, March 23, at Dubai’s Design District, with amazing hairstyles by En Vogue Beauty Center gracing the catwalk.

Working in collaboration with L’Oreal, En Vogue had 20 of its best hairdressers working on all the models backstage at FFWD, creating different looks that matched each of the featured designers’ style.

The event, which runs until Saturday, showcased seven designers for its inaugural outing this season.

They were: Nafsika Skourti, a Greek/Jordanian fashion entrepreneur and a Central Saint Martins alumnus; Diana Wassef, Nour Najem and Roni Helou from the Starch Foundation, a non-profit initiative supporting emerging Lebanese designers; Arwa Al Banawi, the Saudi-born designer famous for her expertly-tailored blazers and Hussein Bazaza, the Lebanese designer picked by Elle Style Awards as ‘Best Upcoming Middle East Designer’ in 2013.

The other designers are Hessa Falasi, the Emirati talent known for her couture abayas, that combine traditional elements with a modern flair; Renad Hefni, the brains behind Royaled, a pret-a-couture brand offering collections that can be worn all year round; and Michael Cinco, the Dubai- based Filipino designer renowned for his fabulous couture gowns.

En Vogue stylists expertly conjured different looks, which required a variety of hair styling techniques. For Nafsika Skourti’s show, the hairdressers styled elegant low donut buns, while models for Starch Foundation’s designers walked the runway with different updos, including ponytails volumized by strands of hair pulled from front, middle-parting fringes and wavy hairstyles.

Arwa Al Banawi’s show mesmerized with her models wearing their hair down, and rocking slightly wet look messy styles. Sleek, low ponytails completed the polished look of Hussein Bazaza’s models, while for the Royaled show by Renad Hefni, slicked back wet hair look was on spotlight.

Michael Cinco capped the night with his models sporting chic-boho style messy braids.
